Blinds Maintenance

Blinds have revolutionised the way we cover our windows, in a sense it has all but replaced curtains. However an unfortunate truth remains, regardless of style, material, or design no blinds are immune to dirt or stains! For blinds maintenance visit http://blindsmart.co.za/

Because window blinds are so diverse cleaning them could prove to be a bit of a challenge as not all cleaning techniques are applicable to each type of blinds. For instance not all materials may be submerged in water and heavy detergent cleaning is also out.

Below are some basic tips to help you deal with the cleaning and maintenance issues of having blinds.

First of all before blinds are washed or “wiped down” the following rule must be implemented. This applies to all types of blinds, before cleaning commences the blinds must be thoroughly vacuumed. For more textured blinds such as bamboo blinds a once over with a soft bristle brush is recommended.

For blinds that may be submerged in water

Always use warm water (not hot water) and a mild detergent, submerge the blinds and use a nail brush or a soft bristle brush to work over the fabric. Take care to be gentle and not focus excessively on one spot and most important always rinse your blinds in clean cool water!

For blinds that are not water safe
Your best option for cleaning blinds that may not be submerged is vacuuming, a wipe down with a soft cloth and in extreme cases dry foam cleaning with a mild foam detergent is recommended.
Generally the use of bleach is not allowed however in extreme cases bleach may be used on white fabric!

Keep in mind that wet blinds must be placed either on a drying rack or clothes line for vertical blinds a flat surface is preferred.

Why Wooden Blinds are an Excellent Choice for Your Home

Three things about wooden blinds that make perfect sense.

Wooden blinds control the light coming through your windows in the same way as other blinds do, but they are undeniably popular. Here are three reasons why:

They are sophisticated

Probably the most important factor to consider when looking at blinds is their visual appeal. There are a lot of attractive blinds on the market these days, but wooden blinds give your home a sophisticated ambiance that is well worth their weight. Whether they are varnished to bring out their natural tone, or painted to match the feel of a room, wooden louvres or venetian blinds always add class to their surroundings.

They are easy to maintain

Let’s face it, although cleaning can be therapeutic, none of us would put it at the top of our list of fun activities. The great thing about wooden blinds is that they require a lot less attention in this department. You don’t need to remove them from the window to clean them, and a quick dusting every now and then will suffice to keep them looking good.

They aren’t as expensive as you think

Wooden blinds might carry a slightly larger price tag than other blinds, but they work out cheaper over time. The great thing about wooden blinds is that, with the proper care, they can outlast some other materials by years.

With their inherent sophistication, ease of maintenance and cost effectiveness, wooden blinds really do make perfect sense.

Is Wooden Blinds the Best Option For Your Home?

The interior design industry places a lot of weight on the blinds found on windows and doors. This important décor element can add flair to any room or subtract from its appeal. Many homeowners feel that blinds manufactured of wood, or those with a timber look add warmth to the room. Wooden blinds also add privacy without seeming stark.

Another reason for its popularity and why it might be ideal for your home is that these blinds offer an inviting look that adds beauty to the room and complements its furnishings. Many professional interior designers also choose woodenblinds for its versatility, durability and warmth. A great benefit of choosing these types of blinds is that they can easily be custom designed and crafted to match the décor of any room in your home.

Bring Wooden Blinds’ Graceful Charm Into Your Home

Timber blinds bring with them a natural look into the room with graceful charm. Many people prefer them to conventional shutters or curtains. Its appeal is not only limited to inside the home but it looks beautiful both from inside and outside. In addition to this, these types of blinds act as a great insulator against cold or heat. This helps to keep your home cool during the summer months and warm during the winter months without having to spend so much electricity on heaters or air conditioners. Why You Should Invest in Window Blinds

Many homeowners choose window blinds for their homes for specific reasons. While other types of window drapery and dressings are also popular, a lot of South Africans prefer blinds, for obvious reasons. The notoriously hot summer months in South Africa can be difficult to manage with hot and muggy weather stealing people’s quality of life.

Even though many homeowners have air conditioners running during summer to help manage the heat, blinds can also help to keep the home naturally cooler. This assists with keeping energy use to a minimum since the air conditioners won’t need to work so hard to keep the home comfortably cool. This is one of the most popular reasons why people tend to choose blinds for their homes.

Other Reasons to Choose Window Blinds for Your Home

There are of course a few other reasons why you should consider getting window blinds for your home. Here are only a few of the reasons to consider:

·         Control levels of natural light – when you have blinds installed, you can easily control the levels of natural light that enters your home. During summer you can minimise the amount of sunshine that enters the home and in winter you can allow more in with little hassle at all.
·         Lots of styles to choose from – with so many styles available you will never be at a loss for choice.
·         Convenience – cleaning and maintaining blinds is so easy. You can clean off dust and other dirt with ease.

Invest in quality blinds that will last you for many years.

The Benefits of Installing Motorised Blinds

The idea of installing motorised blinds may not appeal to everyone and may not have even occurred to others but the fact remains that installing motorised blinds in either a home design space or an office has many interesting benefits.

Motorised blinds, despite what some might think, are not for people who are simply too lazy to go over to the blinds and open or close them by hand. Some designs of blinds are such that they actually require motorised assistance in order to open or raise them, and close them (lower them). These types of blinds are often made from heavier materials or are very large, making manual operation either too slow or impractical.

Design Possibilities for Motorised Blinds

Installing motorised blinds brings with it many different design possibilities. Anyone who is faced with the daunting task of providing window treatments to floor to ceiling picture windows or bay windows will love the idea of installing motorised blinds. In these examples the motorised blinds can be controlled remotely, making the opening and closing of them effortless.

Motorised blinds can also be connected to a timer that will regulate when specifically the blinds are opened or closed. These timers can further be enhanced with modern technology including light sensors that can measure the amount of light coming in and then close or open the blinds accordingly. These highly sensitive sensors can also determine the height and direction of the sun and in turn set the blinds to allow maximum light with minimum UV transmission.

patio blinds

Patio blinds are one of the best inventions yet! We all love living and entertaining outside but during our icy winters it is sometimes an act of madness to set up the braai and the garden furniture cushions in a leafless, dry garden. Everything looks so unfriendly as well as feeling murderously uncomfortable.

Now the solution is just a patio blind away. Snuggle your outdoor area in either bamboo or wood and enjoy it the whole year round. It is a pity to have to abandon the ubiquitous braai in winter. South Africans rely on outdoor living and entertaining and many of us have roofed but unwalled outdoor spots which have to be vacated in winter. With patio blinds fitted, we can braai all year round without freezing and sneezing. The blinds have windows so it isn’t a case of ensconcing yourself in a cave. You are still able to see around and feel as comfortable as if you were sitting in bright summer sunshine.

Add an outdoor heater and your little haven is complete. It will feel as though you are sitting around a wood fire in the bushveld. You could even play a CD of wild animal sounds to add atmosphere.
Your outdoor blinds can also be used for your lapa. Most of us have a lapa in the garden these days simply because our climate is so conducive to outdoor living. Our lapas have become a mini home often with fridges, heaters, ovens and TVs so that once we have settled outside with our guests and family, we need not venture into the kitchen again.

With outdoor patio blinds we can keep the summer feeling alive so much longer and enjoy our rugby games outside as well.
