Caring For Your Blinds

Blinds are as versatile as life itself, there are wooden blinds, plastic blinds, aluminium blinds, bamboo blinds, and fabric blinds each having its own pro’s and con’s. People often think that the most difficult aspects about blinds are installing them! This is not true installing blinds is as easy as pie the difficult part comes to maintaining blinds especially vertical blinds.

Vertical blinds are one of the most beautiful and versatile of all blinds but due to the fact that it is mainly made up of polyester material it can also be one of the most difficult to maintain. More often than not the blinds don’t receive a second though after installation and this is the worst mistake people can make. Usually the mistake is only realised once the blinds become dirty, keep in mind that dust and UV light is the worst enemy of blinds and if left unchecked can cause an unsightly mess.

Vertical blinds require constant care to keep them in prime condition if you take care of your blinds from the get go you will never need to wash them, caring for your vertical blinds is quite easy and can be done once a week and should take no longer than an hour. Always vacuum your blinds thoroughly using the small brush attachment, once you are satisfied that you have removed all the dust, wipe down with a soft cloth and mild cleaning solution.
Avoid using strong chemicals and soaps as these will not only damage your blinds, excessive soap will seep into the material causing a sticky solution that attracts dirt.

Venetian blinds – adding a touch of elegance to any room

How to choose an incorporate blinds into your home

Are you looking for a slick, modern look to your home or office? Or perhaps a touch of country charm? The range of styles, materials, and finishes that blinds are available in, cater to a wide variety of personal tastes and budgets. From verticalblinds, aluminium blinds, outdoor wooden blinds, horizontal blinds, to the more classic venetian blinds, add a touch of class to your environment; you won’t regret it. Add to that, they’re sturdy and survive wear and tear not only from the elements, but also from overly playful cats and dogs. Blinds add to the privacy of the room or patio, and even contribute to interior climate control.

So how do you go about selecting your blind?

The first thing to take into account is the room in which you want to install the blinds, certain materials are unsuitable in certain rooms. For example, wooden venetian blinds are not well suited to the kitchen due to the heat and humidity from cooking. The material of the blind also adds to the climate control of the room; aluminium blinds have a remarkably cooling effect on overly hot rooms due to their ability to reflect sunlight. Wooden blinds, on the other hand add a sense of warmth.

Once you’ve picked your material you are free to choose from a wealth of finishes and colour to suit the intended look and feel of your space. And there you are, a fresh new face to your home or office!

Using Outdoor Blinds to Create the Perfect Retreat

Outdoor blinds are one of the last things people consider  when choosing to entertain outside and let’s face it entertaining outside is not always as easy as it would seem, sure we would all like it the too be as it is in the movies with perfect sunshine and everyone having a good time. The reality is often with the South African sun you end up getting more sunburn standing in front of the braai than anything else.

If it is not the blazing sun we need to content with it is the summer drizzles that spoil our fun! What many don’t realise is that you have the power to determine whether or not you will be having a good time outside or not. If you are fortunate enough to have a patio why not consider outdoorblinds not only do they look stylish they are the perfect way to keep your guest comfortable when entertaining outside.

Typically patio furniture is carried in and out of the house for fear of it being damaged if you install patio blinds that risk is virtually eliminated as the blinds can be closed up completely if the patio is not in use.

Outdoor blinds is an inexpensive way to totally transform your boring old patio into a luxury retreat once you have closed your patio up with the appropriate patio blinds you can start adding some comfortable patio furniture along with some nice plush pillows and maybe a pot plant or two to add a little bit of nature and your end result will be a place you would want to spend time in and best of all you can bring your braai unto your patio and braai in style.

To find outdoor blinds that will suite your needs and your pocket speak to your local blinds manufacturer, they will be able to advise you accordingly and help with the installation.

Blinds Maintenance

Blinds have revolutionised the way we cover our windows, in a sense it has all but replaced curtains. However an unfortunate truth remains, regardless of style, material, or design no blinds are immune to dirt or stains! For blinds maintenance visit http://blindsmart.co.za/

Because window blinds are so diverse cleaning them could prove to be a bit of a challenge as not all cleaning techniques are applicable to each type of blinds. For instance not all materials may be submerged in water and heavy detergent cleaning is also out.

Below are some basic tips to help you deal with the cleaning and maintenance issues of having blinds.

First of all before blinds are washed or “wiped down” the following rule must be implemented. This applies to all types of blinds, before cleaning commences the blinds must be thoroughly vacuumed. For more textured blinds such as bamboo blinds a once over with a soft bristle brush is recommended.

For blinds that may be submerged in water

Always use warm water (not hot water) and a mild detergent, submerge the blinds and use a nail brush or a soft bristle brush to work over the fabric. Take care to be gentle and not focus excessively on one spot and most important always rinse your blinds in clean cool water!

For blinds that are not water safe
Your best option for cleaning blinds that may not be submerged is vacuuming, a wipe down with a soft cloth and in extreme cases dry foam cleaning with a mild foam detergent is recommended.
Generally the use of bleach is not allowed however in extreme cases bleach may be used on white fabric!

Keep in mind that wet blinds must be placed either on a drying rack or clothes line for vertical blinds a flat surface is preferred.

Why Wooden Blinds are an Excellent Choice for Your Home

Three things about wooden blinds that make perfect sense.

Wooden blinds control the light coming through your windows in the same way as other blinds do, but they are undeniably popular. Here are three reasons why:

They are sophisticated

Probably the most important factor to consider when looking at blinds is their visual appeal. There are a lot of attractive blinds on the market these days, but wooden blinds give your home a sophisticated ambiance that is well worth their weight. Whether they are varnished to bring out their natural tone, or painted to match the feel of a room, wooden louvres or venetian blinds always add class to their surroundings.

They are easy to maintain

Let’s face it, although cleaning can be therapeutic, none of us would put it at the top of our list of fun activities. The great thing about wooden blinds is that they require a lot less attention in this department. You don’t need to remove them from the window to clean them, and a quick dusting every now and then will suffice to keep them looking good.

They aren’t as expensive as you think

Wooden blinds might carry a slightly larger price tag than other blinds, but they work out cheaper over time. The great thing about wooden blinds is that, with the proper care, they can outlast some other materials by years.

With their inherent sophistication, ease of maintenance and cost effectiveness, wooden blinds really do make perfect sense.

Is Wooden Blinds the Best Option For Your Home?

The interior design industry places a lot of weight on the blinds found on windows and doors. This important décor element can add flair to any room or subtract from its appeal. Many homeowners feel that blinds manufactured of wood, or those with a timber look add warmth to the room. Wooden blinds also add privacy without seeming stark.

Another reason for its popularity and why it might be ideal for your home is that these blinds offer an inviting look that adds beauty to the room and complements its furnishings. Many professional interior designers also choose woodenblinds for its versatility, durability and warmth. A great benefit of choosing these types of blinds is that they can easily be custom designed and crafted to match the décor of any room in your home.

Bring Wooden Blinds’ Graceful Charm Into Your Home

Timber blinds bring with them a natural look into the room with graceful charm. Many people prefer them to conventional shutters or curtains. Its appeal is not only limited to inside the home but it looks beautiful both from inside and outside. In addition to this, these types of blinds act as a great insulator against cold or heat. This helps to keep your home cool during the summer months and warm during the winter months without having to spend so much electricity on heaters or air conditioners. These are a few reasons why wooden blinds may just be the blinds your home needs.
